My goal

During my long distance cycle from London to South Africa, I'm raising money for The Black Mambas. If you would like to donate please do so here.

The Black Mambas are the world's first all-female anti-poaching ranger unit. Without weapons they protect the animals in their game reserve from poachers. They clear snares, patrol the park, perform anti-poaching checks and provide care for their wildlife. They are military trained, and their anti-poaching unit is an excellent employer with opportunities for leadership and career progress.

The Black Mambas are a symbol of the value of empowering women and placing them in roles of respect and care in their communities. They are changing the local conversation about how the game reserves are perceived. They are changing the way women are seen in their communities, and they are making poaching less attractive.

For me the Black Mambas represent a synergy of two causes I really care about - protecting our wildlife from poaching, and female empowerment. I have met two rangers, and the founder of the organisation, Craig Spencer, in London in 2022, and they gave me the inspiration to set out on my cycle. I hope the donations I can collect will help them do their work.

I will leave London during World Female Ranger week, 23-30 June 2023, which was started by the incredible Holly Budge at How Many Elephants. There are now many female ranger units across the world, changing the conversation around wildlife, and the way women are valued in local communities.

I hope I can amplify the voices of these incredible women, and I can't wait to meet the Black Mambas in their home in Balule Game Reserve
